Hammocks

The typical hammock is a kind of fabric sling used for resting and relaxing. Hammocks are perfect for a leisurely afternoon nap or relaxing with a good book.  Hammocks are often used in leisure related areas like backyards, porches and waterfront areas.

The image of hammocks is so closely associated with leisure that their practical side is often overlooked.  Hammocks were developed n Pre-Columbian Latin America and later adapted throughout Europe.  By elevating the person in the hammock off the ground, the hammock separated them from harmful ground creatures such as snakes as well as ground water, dirt and other unsanitary elements.  Hammocks are still frequently used by campers today for travels trying to lessen their impact on the environments in which they travel.

Modern variations on the hammock include ones made with synthetic weather resistant fabrics and metal poles to support them.  Hammocks are available in rope versions which are constructed like netting material.  Hammocks are also available in a wide variety of comfortable fabrics that invite the user to lie back and relax.
